You’re Not Crazy—Something Is Draining You
When Behavior Isn’t the Real Problem
Introduction
Lately, something feels off.
You’re more irritated than usual.
More tired than you should be.
Responding in ways that don’t feel like you.
And the question shows up:
“What’s wrong with me?”
Let’s correct that.
You’re not crazy—something is draining you.
The issue isn’t just what you’re doing.
It’s what’s happening beneath it.
Key Point #1 — Behavior Is a Signal, Not the Source
There’s a parasite known as the Oestrus ovis—the sheep bot fly.
It doesn’t attack like a predator.
It doesn’t overpower its target.
It deposits larvae near the nostrils of a sheep—quietly.
Those larvae enter the nasal passages and begin to live inside the head.
Over time, the sheep changes:
Not because it’s broken.
Because something got inside.
Scripture gives us the same pattern.
We also see this in the life of Saul:
Saul’s instability wasn’t random. Something shifted internally—and his outward life reflected it.
Now, to be clear:
If something is in your system, it will show up in your behavior.
Key Point #2 — What Enters Quietly Can Drain Consistently
Parasites don’t need a dramatic moment.
They enter through exposure:
“Do not be misled: bad company corrupts good character.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33
Small entry.
Consistent drain.
What enters quietly can drain consistently.
Key Point #3 — Draining Is Gradual, Not Sudden
This is why it’s difficult to detect.
It doesn’t hit all at once.
It shows up as:
You don’t collapse.
You slowly deplete.
You don’t crash—you drain.
Key Point #4 — Protection Is Not the Same as Removal
Shepherds have long used oil around a sheep’s head and nose.
Not to remove parasites already inside…
But to protect against new ones entering.
Oil creates a barrier.
Oil soothes irritation.
Oil protects.
“You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” — Psalm 23:5
Spiritually, oil represents covering, protection, and presence.
But hear this clearly:
Oil can guard the entrance—it cannot clean the system.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23
You can be covered… and still be carrying something.
Key Point #5 — You Can’t Manage What’s Feeding on You
Most people don’t remove what’s draining them.
They adjust to it.
They normalize it.
But parasites don’t stabilize your life. They drain it.
“Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards.” — Song of Solomon 2:15
You can’t manage something that’s feeding on you.
Key Point #6 — Drain It, Don’t Normalize It
Not suppress it.
Not ignore it.
Not work around it.
Remove it.
“If your right eye causes you to stumble, tear it out…” — Matthew 5:29–30 (principle: remove what causes harm)
Don’t just sneeze out the problem—deal with the root.
That requires intentional action.
Self-Diagnosis: What Might Be Draining You?
Take a moment and answer honestly:
“Search me, God, and know my heart… see if there is any offensive way in me.” — Psalm 139:23–24
Action Steps — Drain It
Be specific. Clarity leads to action.
Final Thought
That sheep isn’t erratic for no reason. It’s responding to something internal. And if you’re honest, there are moments when that’s true for you too.
Before you label yourself…
Before you label someone else…
Ask the better question:
WHAT'S IN THE SYSTEM?
And once you identify it...
Because you were never designed to live depleted, you were designed to live ABUNDANTLY.

It doesn’t overpower its target.
It deposits larvae near the nostrils of a sheep—quietly.
Those larvae enter the nasal passages and begin to live inside the head.
Over time, the sheep changes:
- It becomes restless
- It shakes its head constantly
- It runs erratically
- It can’t settle
Not because it’s broken.
Because something got inside.
Scripture gives us the same pattern.
What’s happening internally will eventually show up externally.
We also see this in the life of Saul:
“The Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit troubled him.” — 1 Samuel 16:14
Saul’s instability wasn’t random. Something shifted internally—and his outward life reflected it.
Now, to be clear:
Not every struggle is spiritual in the same way.
But the principle holds—internal conditions shape external behavior.
If something is in your system, it will show up in your behavior.
Key Point #2 — What Enters Quietly Can Drain Consistently
Parasites don’t need a dramatic moment.
They enter through exposure:
- What you keep consuming
- Who you stay connected to
- What you tolerate
- What you ignore because it seems small
“Do not be misled: bad company corrupts good character.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33
Small entry.
Consistent drain.
What enters quietly can drain consistently.
Key Point #3 — Draining Is Gradual, Not Sudden
This is why it’s difficult to detect.
It doesn’t hit all at once.
It shows up as:
- Irritation
- Fatigue
- Mental fog
- Inconsistency
“When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.” — Psalm 32:3
“For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.” — Psalm 32:4
You don’t collapse.
You slowly deplete.
You don’t crash—you drain.
Key Point #4 — Protection Is Not the Same as Removal
Shepherds have long used oil around a sheep’s head and nose.

Key Point #5 — You Can’t Manage What’s Feeding on You
Most people don’t remove what’s draining them.
They adjust to it.
They normalize it.
- “This is just how life is.”
- “I’m just tired.”
- “It’s just stress.”
But parasites don’t stabilize your life. They drain it.
“Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards.” — Song of Solomon 2:15
You can’t manage something that’s feeding on you.
Key Point #6 — Drain It, Don’t Normalize It

Don’t just sneeze out the problem—deal with the root.
That requires intentional action.
Self-Diagnosis: What Might Be Draining You?
Take a moment and answer honestly:
- Where have I changed recently?
- What consistently leaves me depleted?
- What have I tolerated that I should have addressed?
- What am I trying to manage instead of remove?
- What am I protecting… but not cleansing?
“Search me, God, and know my heart… see if there is any offensive way in me.” — Psalm 139:23–24
Action Steps — Drain It
Be specific. Clarity leads to action.
- Identify it - Psalm 139:23
Name what’s draining you. - Cut off its supply - Matthew 5:29
Remove what allows it to stay. - Replace it with truth - John 8:32
Fill the gap with what restores you. - Strengthen your system - Ephesians 6:10
Build habits, boundaries, and discipline. - Stay consistent - Galatians 6:9
Patterns don’t break with one decision.
- Don’t excuse it.
- Don’t normalize it.
- Don’t manage it.
- Drain it.
Because you were never designed to live depleted, you were designed to live ABUNDANTLY.

This is a great read. The "you can be "covered" but still "carrying" something is heavy. Yes, Yes. Thanks for posting.

This is really good. “We are not called to live depleted, we are called to live abundantly.” When we know our true purpose and stance in God, we can see and drain what's draining us.
